We chose style and image over substance. Cable brought us a gazillion channels ...and there was still nothing on TV! We worried about things like who shot JR. We trampled each other for Cabbage Patch dolls. We merged and acquired, made a lot of money, shopped til we dropped. Then we cranked up "Material Girl" in our beemers and drove on toward the 90s.
